The story of Michelangelo’s “David” is a fascinating legend that suggests that the artist, when he received the block of marble to sculpt the famous statue, believed to see the figure of David already present within that stone block.
According to this narrative, Michelangelo considered his task to simply be freeing the figure that was already contained in the material. With skill and precision, he worked the block of marble to shape the image of the youth, thus creating a masterpiece that captures the majesty and strength of the human spirit.
Although this story may be more romantic than factual, it has endured over time as a poetic way of understanding Michelangelo’s creative process and his extraordinary ability to transform matter into art.
This concept was developed for the communication of the “Pedra Viva” festival in Menorca. It is a festival of music and performing arts characterized by its unconventional venues.
